RE: FEC Updates Contribution Limits for 2023-2024 Election Cycle

Today, the Federal Election Commission (“FEC”) raised the contribution limits for the 2023-2024 election cycle for individuals and non-multicandidate political action committees (“PACs”) contributing to federal candidates and national party committees. The FEC also raised the contribution limit shared by a national party committee and its Senatorial campaign committee contributing to Senate candidates.

Under the Federal Election Campaign Act (“FECA”), the FEC must adjust certain contribution limits for inflation in odd-numbered years. The inflation-adjusted limits are:

  • The limits on contributions made by individuals to Presidential, House, and Senate candidates (increased to $3,300 per election, per candidate);
  • The limits on contributions made by individuals to national party committees (increased to $41,300 per calendar year);
  • The limits on contributions made by non-multicandidate PACs to Presidential, House, and Senate candidates (increased to $3,300 per election, per candidate);
  • The limits on contributions made by non-multicandidate PACs to national party committees (increased to $41,300 per calendar year);
  • The limits on contributions made by individuals and non-multicandidate PACs to:
    • The building and recount accounts of national party committees (increased to $123,900 per calendar year, per account);
    • The presidential nominating convention accounts of national party committees (increased to $123,900 per calendar year); and
  • The limit on contributions made by a national party committee and its Senatorial campaign committee, combined, to Senate candidates (increased to $57,800 per candidate).

The per-election limits on contributions to candidates apply for the two-year election cycle beginning the day after the general election and ending on the date of the next general election (November 9, 2022 - November 5, 2024). All other contribution limits apply for the two-calendar-year period beginning on January 1, 2023 and ending on December 31, 2024.

Limits for contributions from candidate committees, multicandidate PACs, state party committees, and national party committees (except as discussed above) remain unchanged. Contribution limits to state party committees and PACs also remain unchanged.

A full summary of the updated limits for the 2023-2024 election cycle is included below.
