Elias Law Group Files Six New Voting Rights Lawsuits
WASHINGTON, D.C. – As voting rights come under attack from state legislatures and the Trump Administration, Elias Law Group has filed six new voting rights lawsuits challenging restrictive voting laws or illegal congressional maps across six states. Altogether, these lawsuits represent the largest expansion of the firm’s work protecting democracy since the 2024 election.
- Florida Decides Healthcare v. Byrd: A pro-voting lawsuit challenging the Florida legislature’s efforts to curtail direct democracy.
- Bothfeld v. Wisconsin Elections Commission: A pro-voting lawsuit challenging Wisconsin’s congressional map as a partisan gerrymander.
- Equality State Policy Center v. Gray: A pro-voting lawsuit challenging Wyoming’s proof of citizenship requirement when registering to vote.
- Count US IN v. Morales: A pro-voting lawsuit challenging Indiana’s ban on the use of a student ID for voting.
- Kansas Appleseed Center for Law and Justice v. Schwab: A pro-voting lawsuit challenging a Kansas law that disqualifies mail ballots that arrive after election day.
- Montana Public Interest Research Group v. Jacobsen: A pro-voting lawsuit challenging a Montana law that imposes additional requirements that prevent students from registering to vote in the county where they live.
The new lawsuits come just days after reports that the Trump Administration gutted the Voting Section of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, removing senior civil servants and directing attorneys to dismiss remaining voting rights cases.
Last month, Elias Law Group attorneys representing Democrats secured a preliminary injunction blocking key provisions of President Trump’s so-called “Election Integrity” Executive Order.
Elias Law Group is now litigating 52 voting and election cases in 23 states and expects to file additional pro-democracy lawsuits this week.
