Jonathan Hawley is an associate in Elias Law Group's Litigation practice. He focuses on voting rights and redistricting matters, litigating state and federal cases from pretrial discovery and motions practice through appeal. 

During the latest redistricting cycle, Jonathan fought for fair maps in Minnesota, Louisiana, Georgia, Kansas, and New Hampshire. He also served on the trial team that successfully defended Oregon’s new congressional plan.  

Before ELG, Jonathan worked to expand and safeguard voting rights in states across the nation, including California, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, and Nevada. Following the 2020 election, he represented Nevada’s Democratic presidential electors to defend President-elect Joe Biden’s victory and secured dismissal of a challenge brought under the Federal Contested Elections Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Jonathan earned his J.D. with honors from The University of Chicago Law School, where he was a David M. Rubenstein Scholar, member of The University of Chicago Law Reviewand recipient of the Ann Watson Barber Outstanding Service Award. He then clerked for the Honorable Milan D. Smith, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable Philip S. Gutierrez of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Before law school, Jonathan received an A.B. in History from Harvard College and served as special assistant and chief of staff to inventor Dean Kamen.
