Elias Law Group Statement on Supreme Court Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Elias Law Group Litigation Chair Elisabeth Frost released the following statement in response to today’s Supreme Court victory in Watson v. RNC.

“Today the Supreme Court ruled in favor of our clients, Vet Voice Foundation and the Mississippi Alliance for Retired Americans, affirming a simple principle: a lawful ballot cast on time should be counted. It rejected the RNC’s radical attempt to rewrite election laws in a way that would have resulted in the rejection of hundreds of thousands of ballots and the disenfranchisement of voters nationwide through no fault of their own. Until the Fifth Circuit ruled in the RNC’s favor, every single court to have considered the RNC’s argument had thoroughly rejected it. Today, the Supreme Court joined those courts, as was evident from the outset that it should. The importance of this case cannot be overstated. Elias Law Group is proud to have spent years working on this historic case, and we are honored to have done so on behalf of Vet Voice Foundation and the Mississippi Alliance for Retired Americans, working to ensure that our veterans and older voters — and all Americans who are entitled to vote by mail — will not be disenfranchised by this cynical attempt to keep their votes from being counted. We are also grateful to the Mississippi Center for Justice for their partnership on this case. We will keep fighting to protect free and fair elections wherever and whenever threats arise. This ruling demonstrates that when we fight for democracy, we can win.”
