Katherine LaBeau is a partner in the Political Law practice. She advises tax-exempt and political organizations on a spectrum of federal tax, corporate, and campaign finance matters.  

In Ms. LaBeau’s practice, she represents nonprofit clients, including 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations, 501(c)(3) charitable organizations and 527 political organizations. She helps them interface with the Internal Revenue Service, navigate complex federal tax questions, seek federal tax-exemption, and understand the nuances of the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury regulations. Ms. LaBeau counsels campaigns and organizations on media law related to political and issue advertising. She also advises nonprofit clients that utilize complex subsidiary structures, helping them achieve their mission while staying legally compliant. 

As outside general counsel to both new and established nonprofits and political committees, Ms. LaBeau advises on entity formation, corporate governance, operations, and contracts. Clients also rely on her counsel to maintain compliance with federal, state and local ethics rules and lobbying laws and reporting requirements. Additionally, Ms. LaBeau counsels federal and state political committees, including super PACs, 527 organizations and candidate committees, on state and federal campaign finance laws and First Amendment issues. 

Ms. LaBeau is a magna cum laude graduate of Indiana University Maurer School of Law and DePauw University. She also earned a Master of Public Affairs with a focus in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
