WASHINGTON, D.C. — Five years ago today, Elias Law Group opened its doors as a mission-driven law firm dedicated to helping Democrats win elections, protecting the right to vote, and supporting progressive organizations. Today, Elias Law Group is the nation’s largest law firm dedicated to pro-democracy litigation and political law.
This anniversary arrives at a consequential moment. With Election Day just over two months away, Elias Law Group is helping hundreds of Democratic campaigns and progressive organizations prepare for the midterms while litigating 83 cases across 42 states and the District of Columbia. Those lawsuits will help determine whether millions of Americans can register, cast a ballot, and have that ballot counted in a free and fair election that will decide control of both chambers of Congress, 36 governorships, and state legislatures across the country.
“Five years ago, we launched Elias Law Group because Democratic candidates and campaigns, voters, and progressive organizations needed a law firm that would fight for them without hesitation or apology,” said Firm Chair Marc Elias. “Everything we have built since then has been made possible by the clients who trusted us from the very beginning and by the lawyers and staff who chose this demanding, mission-driven work. While many large firms have walked away from defending democracy, Elias Law Group has refused to back down. Five years in, our commitment to electing Democrats, protecting voting rights, and helping secure progressive change is unwavering.”
In less than two years since President Trump returned to office, Elias Law Group attorneys have secured scores of favorable court decisions, including a landmark victory before the U.S. Supreme Court this year in Watson v. RNC, which protects each state’s right to establish a grace period for mail ballots that were postmarked before Election Day but arrive late due to postal delays beyond the voter’s control.
The firm is currently fighting to protect free and fair elections in 30 lawsuits brought by the U.S. Department of Justice against states that refused to turn over unredacted voter files. Elias Law Group moved to intervene on behalf of voters and pro-voting organizations in each case. The DOJ has yet to win a single case, with 23 losses and counting, while Elias Law Group is undefeated.
Elias Law Group is also challenging President Trump’s election-related executive orders on behalf of the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic Governors Association, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
In just five years, Elias Law Group has already been recognized as one of the nation’s leading political law firms. Five Elias Law Group partners were recognized in this year’s Chambers guide, and the firm earned a prestigious Band 1 ranking in Political Law for the fourth consecutive year. Four Elias Law Group partners were also recognized in this year’s Super Lawyers guide.
